About the Team

The Panel Support Team ensures that we have sufficient Panel Members and Legal Assessors who are efficient, engaged, technically proficient, empathetic in their approach and reflect the diversity of the communities we serve. We manage the selection and appointment, induction and onboarding, ongoing training and continuous development, and performance of over 500 Panel Members and Legal Assessors. We also manage and deliver the Hearings Coordinator induction training programme.  

About the Role 

The Contract Performance Officer will assist in the management and review of the conduct and performance of Panel Members and Legal Assessors who support the Fitness to Practice process, which plays a key role in the NMC’s public protection remit. This role contributes to improvements in the quality of decisions made at Fitness to Practise events by ensuring performance of Panel Members and Legal Assessors is of the required standard. It involves working collaboratively with them to embed a culture of accountability for results and continuous improvement whilst having due regard for the independent nature of Fitness to Practise panels.


About You 

You have demonstrated experience in: 

  • Delivering continuous improvement through contract management including performance improvement management
  • Managing performance reviews and feedback systems
  • Managing and resolving performance issues with confidence
  • Developing relationships at a senior level and with key stakeholders 
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with contractors or external stakeholders, and manging their contracts 
  • Using data to identify problems and deliver practical solutions 

You are: 

  • Able to understand and work with legislation and tight procedural framework 
  • A highly effective communicator with excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • A motivated individual who is able to work with minimum supervision and is driven to deliver positive change
  • A critical thinker with innovative problem solving skills

Second, we maintain the register of professionals eligible to practise. Third, we investigate concerns about nurses, midwives and nursing associates - something that affects a tiny minority of professionals each year. Our Pay Policy
It is expected that staff new to the NMC will ordinarily be appointed to the bottom of the relevant pay band. However in exceptional circumstances, it may be possible to offer a salary above the bottom of the relevant pay band but we may request proof of current earnings. Please note that we offer an annual review of salaries and adopt a generous progressive pay approach. Further details of which are available on request.

For our internal colleagues, you will be paid in accordance to our internal pay policy.
