Job Title: Pastoral & Safeguarding Officer
Location: Birmingham, B44
Salary: £22,500 - £24,500
Hours of Work: 8:50am - 4:30pm
Days: Monday - Friday, Term Time Only
Start Date: ASAP
End Date: Until July 2024 and opportunity to extend

Post Objective: To provide students with pastoral support on a 1:1 basis and in small groups. The role includes a focus on Safeguarding, the post holder will act as the main first point of contact for Safeguarding concerns raised by staff, visitors, parents/carers.

Pastoral Main Duties:

  • Manage a case load of students requiring intervention support to improve academic performance, attendance, engagement and barriers to engagement with learning
  • Provide effective care and guidance for learners, including those with SEND, Child Protection issues, Looked after Children, Previously Looked after Children and Care Leavers though an allocated caseload
  • Provide support through an identified caseload of Young Carers. This will include proactively working to identify Young Carers, monitoring progress and working with external agencies to support them effectively
  • Facilitate meetings with parents/carers/social workers and students as required, alongside tutors, to enable a holistic and individualised approach to supporting students
  • Attend meetings to support Looked after Children such as termly PEP meetings; or case reviews as required based on allocated caseloads

Safeguarding Main Duties

  • Act as the first point of contact for any safeguarding, child and adult protection concerns, providing timely, relevant support and advice in order to safeguard the student
  • Risk assess the safeguarding situation presented to ensure that the student is safeguarded and supported adequately and appropriately, liaising with Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads where required
  • Liaise with College departments as part of the ongoing monitoring and support for students when there has been a safeguarding concern
  • Keep informed of current legislation, statutory and other guidance with regards to safeguarding, child and adult protection
  • Maintain up to date, accurate, confidential records using the identified college systems
