Responsibilities:
- Provide expert clinical leadership and oversight in the management of patients with cancer diagnoses, including diagnosis, treatment planning, and follow-up care.
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients with cancer, including physical examinations, medical histories, and diagnostic investigations, to formulate individualized treatment plans.
- Collaborate closely with other members of the multidisciplinary team, including surgeons, radiologists, pathologists, and allied healthcare professionals, to coordinate patient care and optimize treatment outcomes.
- Deliver evidence-based cancer treatments, including chemotherapy, radiotherapy, immunotherapy, and targeted therapies, in accordance with national and international guidelines and protocols.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to review complex cases, discuss treatment strategies, and formulate personalized care plans for patients with cancer.
- Provide education, support, and counselling to patients and their families regarding cancer diagnosis, treatment options, and supportive care services.
- Contribute to clinical research, audit, and quality improvement initiatives within the oncology department to enhance patient care and service delivery.
Requirements:
- Medical degree from a recognized institution and full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC).
- Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP) or equivalent qualification in medical oncology.
- Substantial experience in the management of patients with cancer diagnoses, including experience in delivering systemic anti-cancer therapies.
- Excellent clinical skills and proficiency in the diagnosis, staging, and treatment of various types of cancer.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Commitment to continuous professional development and keeping abreast of advancements in oncology practice.
- Eligibility for inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register in Medical Oncology.
