Music Teacher – Northholt

£170 a day

Contract – Full Time

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Teaching Year 2 - Year 6
  • Thursday and Fridays
  • The school follows the National Curriculum.
  • This incorporates the essential elements of music and the three aspects defined under disciplinary knowledge.
  • The National Curriculum is enhanced by a web music scheme called Charanga, provided and supported by Ealing Music service.
  • Music is valued in the school and is taught as a stand alone subject. All children have access to music in all year groups, in line with the timetable.
  • The school has clearly identified disciplinary knowledge in music and defined it as the following Technical – physical production of sound with voice, instrument or music technology.
  • Formal and informal notation, learning by ear for the communication of music.
  • Constructive – knowledge and understanding of the musical elements in performance, composition and listening.
  • Expressive – consideration of the quality in performance, composition and listening. Knowledge of musical meaning and culture through history and across the world.
  • These three aspects are intertwined into all units in all year groups which the children encounter year on year to ensure that their knowledge and skills are met.
  • The Music lead has identified clear endpoints for each year group and each unit.
  • As a result, learning is broken down into manageable chunks so that component is built upon week by week. This avoids cognitive overload and supports with retention. E.g. in a year 2 lesson
  • observed, it was clear that children had been taught previous expectations around the use of a glockenspiel, navigation of notes and pitch.
  • The teacher used Assessment for Learning in order to build upon previous knowledge.
