Major Recruitment are currently recruiting for a Media Officer (domestic) which is responsible for securing positive media coverage for all City of London Corporation departments and activities. This involves daily dealings with the London, national and international media.

Location: Basinghall St, London EC2

Working hours: 35h a week

Length of Assignment: 3 weeks cover

Pay rate: £23.10

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Working to the Executive Director of Communications and External Affairs, primarily to tell the story through print, broadcast and digital media of how the client supports and promotes the UK financial and professional services industry
  • Establishing, developing and maintaining excellent and wide-ranging contacts in the media and having a good and close understanding of their needs in order to achieve positive coverage.
  • Understanding the work of relevant committees and departments to ensure that opportunities are taken to publicise their key activities and decisions
  • Researching, organising and writing statements, news releases, photo-ops, profiles, authored articles, briefings and other related tools designed to secure media coverage
  • Assisting in the planning and management of high-profile media events such as the Lord Mayor’s Show, State Banquets and visits from foreign dignitaries.

What you need to succeed in this role:

  • They need experience and understanding of media as the core function is on the writing side, writing press releases, articles etc
  • A public affairs background with an understanding of government relations would be great along with an understanding of the current political environment
  • A basic understanding of the business landscape and political landscape is needed
