We are seeking Mechanical Fitters or Mechanical Technicians to work for a large rail organisation, responsible for keeping the railway system as safe as possible.

You will be an integral part of the team and responsible for monitoring all the systems on board a track maintenance vehicle and be required to repair any breakdowns.

Darlington, Tees Valley

Role and Responsibilities

  • Carry out general mechanical maintenance across rail vehicles on a variety of components such as air braking, hydraulic systems & diesel engines.
  • You’ll need to be adaptable, able to work within a changing environment as priorities and tasks will vary depending on business needs.
  • Fault diagnosis and rectification on mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.

The Candidate

The ideal candidate will be a skilled mechanical technician with experience of working on large vehicles such as heavy plant, HGV’s, coaches, buses or military vehicles. Alternatively, perhaps you worked as a Master Technician maybe on light vehicles or light goods vehicles. Or perhaps you worked on aircraft or within the aerospace industry on maintenance hangars and looking to take a step into something new? Or maybe you are ex forces or in the forces looking to join civilian life, then this could be the opportunity you have been looking for!

Essential Criteria

  • Experience in maintenance and fault finding within a transport related engineering environment.
  • Knowledge or experience of diesel or petrol engines or generators.
  • You must have a minimum Level 2 qualification, or equivalent, in an engineering / mechanical / electrical discipline.
  • Full UK driving licence or locality to the depot.

Shift Pattern

  • The standard hours per week are 40 hours on average.
  • Overtime will be available to enhance earnings should you wish to take advantage.
