Salary: Dependent on experience

Location: Office based; Surrey

Hours: Mon - Fri, 35 hour week

Lloyd Recruitment Services are delighted to be recruiting for an established, highly professional and leading mechanical and electrical building services company that seek an experienced, detail oriented Mechanical Estimator to be responsible for accurately estimating the costs associated with mechanical systems in construction projects.

About the role

As Mechanical Estimator, you will be responsible for accurately estimating the costs associated with mechanical systems in construction projects. Your primary goal will be to provide accurate and competitive estimates, ensuring that projects are profitable and completed within budgetary constraints. You will collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers to gather necessary information and ensure the accuracy of your estimates. This is a critical role that requires excellent analytical skills, knowledge of mechanical systems, and a strong understanding of construction processes.

Responsibilities

  • Review project plans, specifications, and related documents to understand the scope of work and mechanical requirements.
  • Perform detailed take-offs and quantity surveys of mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, piping, and fire protection systems.
  • Analyse and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and other technical documents to accurately estimate materials, labour, and equipment costs.
  • Collaborate with project managers and engineers to determine project schedules, milestones, and deliverables.
  • Identify potential risks and challenges associated with mechanical systems and propose effective solutions to mitigate them.
  • Solicit bids from subcontractors and suppliers, evaluate their proposals, and negotiate pricing to ensure cost competitiveness.
  • Prepare comprehensive cost estimates and budgets for mechanical systems, including labour, materials, equipment, permits, and other related expenses.
  • Develop and maintain a database of historical cost data, industry benchmarks, and productivity rates to support accurate estimating.
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and client presentations to provide technical expertise and answer questions related to mechanical systems.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, advancements in mechanical systems, and changes in building codes and regulations.

Candidate requirements

  • It is essential that applicants can demonstrate proven experience as a Mechanical Estimator in the construction industry.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, piping, and fire protection.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, and specifications.
  • Excellent mathematical and analytical skills, with attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with estimating software and tools advantageous.
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills to effectively collaborate with subcontractors, suppliers, and project stakeholders.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically to overcome challenges.
  • Knowledge of building codes, regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Proficient in using computer software programs, including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Professional certifications (e.g., Certified Professional Estimator) are a plus.
