This is a professional position, requiring planning and resource management skills to direct and monitor tasks of others. Short term travel (possibly international) may be required.

The candidate will be responsible for the complete technical solution to be provided to meet / exceed customer expectations within our clients timing and cost constraints. Utilizes planning, resource and task management skills and directs engineering staff in successful implementation of project assignments.

This is a demanding role for an experienced mechanical engineer, who will be responsible for leading a team of engineers for the duration of a project.
The Design Leader is required to have the following skills and experience:

Key Duties and Responsibilities during Design phases:
* To manage and monitor complex projects to ensure they are running to specification, on time and to budget.
* To plan, organize, assign, review and evaluate the work of the engineering project team.
* To analyse information and assess the results enabling the effective implementation of solutions to complex problems.
* To maintain, and where appropriate apply, an up-to date awareness of new and developing technologies.
* To create quality supporting data to demonstrate productivity, resources, and facility output.
* To promptly report probable and actual process changes to reduce the potential cost of manufacture.
* Can delegate and manage multiple projects at any given time.
* Is capable of making autonomous decisions based on experience and project requirements.
* Is Responsible to drive and understand customer specifications both corporate and plant.
* Customer specifications are adhered to/or signed customer deviation received.
* Is Responsible to work with customer to finalize design requirements, reviews and approvals throughout design phases, manufacturing and completion.
* Is Responsible for the solution Design, volume, quality, Risk Assessment, PFMEA, Safety & CE Risk Assessment and MFMEA.
* Works with the Technical Leader to ensure cross functional communication is taking place when there's a "process change" that affects engineering and/or other departments.
* Works with the Technical Leader to track and report project status.
* Capable to work as a designer when not assigned any projects as Technical Leader.

Essential Skills/Abilities

* Degree in Engineering or Mechanical Design
* Considerable experience with the Automotive/Manufacturing industry
* Ability to design tooling for the BIW Automotive Sector including welding & riveting and all other joining.
* Good working knowledge of CAE programs including Catia, Solidwork, Vision MockUp etc Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office 2013 particularly Excel & PowerPoint
* Knowledge of FEA and stress analysis.

Desired Skills/Abilities

* Knowledge of Jaguar Land Rover's working practices and procedures/specification
* Ability to manage and lead a design engineer.
* Ability to work on own initiative and take responsibility for decisions.
* Good organizational and planning skills; ability to delegate tasks and reassign work as required Excellent written and oral communication skills.
* Good interpersonal skills
* Strong knowledge of JLR specification.
* Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services, including customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
* Ability to write technical documents and reports for use as reference by engineering and technical writers as well as documentation for the project.
* Originality: the ability to come up with unusual or clever ideas about a given topic or situation, or to develop creative ways to solve a problem. This includes the ability to curb or limit creativity when customer requirements and /or commonality of designs dictates.
* Mechanical: strong knowledge of machines, tools, and print reading. An understanding of solutions / systems, their components, and the relationship of those systems to the controls Design
* Ability to read, analyse, and interpret customer specifications, electrical controls schematics, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.
* Systems Evaluation: Identifying measures or indicators of system performance and the actions needed to improve or correct performance, relative to the goals of the system."
* Troubleshooting: Determining causes of errors and determining appropriate corrective actions.
* Drafting, Laying Out, and Specifying Technical Devices, Parts, and Equipment: Providing
documentation, detailed instructions, drawings, or specifications to tell others about how devices, parts, equipment, or structures are to be fabricated, constructed, assembled, modified, maintained, or used."
* Training: Ability to train and mentor other Design eng, Automation and Controls Engineers.
* Monitoring and Controlling Resources: Monitoring and directing resources on tasks to design and /or commission equipment.
* Coordinating Activities of Others: getting members of a group to work together to accomplish tasks.
