Nigel Wright's Engineering and Manufacturing Division are delighted to be working with an international manufacturing business to recruit a Manufacturing Engineer to join their highly successful site in the North East. 

The opportunity

Reporting to the Engineering Manager you will be:
  • Responsible for the effective and efficient design, development and introduction of new equipment and production processes.
  • Creating & Innovating: thinks broadly and creatively to produce machinery and process definitions and specifications which are aligned to the needs of Operations for new/existing process or product and/or change requirements; creates concepts either internally or in conjunction with machinery suppliers for new processes that support the technology strategy; commissions equipment with UK and overseas machine suppliers ensuring new equipment meets legislative HSE regulations.
  • Planning & Organising: plans activities and projects well in advance and takes account of possible changing circumstances; identifies and organises resources needed to accomplish tasks; manages time effectively; sets motivating and ambitious goals and targets for self; monitors performance against deadlines and milestones and initiates corrective action as needed to ensure OTD, expenditure, productivity and quality cost targets are met; takes care to ensure stakeholder needs are incorporated into project plans e.g. global equipment commissioning process.
  • Applying Expertise: undertakes feasibility studies to verify concepts  and construct specifications; works independently, with internal teams and/or with equipment suppliers to deliver cost effective designs, specifications and finished equipment which meets UK and EU safety standards.  
  • Analysing: inputs and analyses numerical data and all other sources of information to break them into component parts, patterns and relationships; uses analyses to identify and implement engineering methodologies that meet design intent and process performance expectations; probes for further information or greater understanding of a problem; analyses prototypes, alternate design paths and test records; makes rational judgements from the available information and analysis; demonstrates an understanding of interconnected decisions; uses data to suggest improvements and new initiatives.
  • Collaborating & Partnering: actively builds and maintains a network of connections across the Group and externally e.g. customers and suppliers to achieve progress on objectives and shared interests; promotes team working; shows respect for the views and contributions of others;  works closely with and supports objectives of Corporate Technology & Innovation teams on programmes and project delivery; contributes towards Technical Panels in specialist area; shares knowledge and resources with peers throughout Division and across functions; seeks constructive outcomes in discussions; communicates process design variations to relevant teams.

About you
The successful candidate will have:
  • A minimum HNC in a relevant engineering discipline
  • Proven experience of design / development of processes and/or equipment
  • Experience of working with light automated assembly processes, robotics and/or equipment for high volume manufacturing
  • Exposure to working with HSE requirements (PUWER & CE mark) and Machinery Directives
  • Management of capital projects associated with equipment specification, procurement and implementation
