Management Accountant required to join a leading business based near Chester. The role reports directly to the Financial Controller and will take ownership for reporting and analysing financial activity for a specific company division and act as a finance subject matter expert across the wider business. The division contributes c.15% of revenue to the overall company results and incorporates several legal entities.

The postholder will be required to develop a strong understanding of the business and its drivers, working closely with the divisional team by taking responsibility for providing finance support and challenge to business activity, commercial decisions and projects as required.

This role is responsible for managing both direct and indirect reports who provide finance transactional support.

They are looking for a highly driven accountant with strong attention to detail, who enjoys getting involved with the business to provide insightful, accurate and reliable reporting and analysis. This is an ideal role for someone who enjoys working within a fast-paced business with a high degree of autonomy, having the opportunity to develop their own ideas and add value.

Responsibilities;

  • Reconciling and analysing the transactional data in the ERP system to ensure that the figures included in the P&L and balance sheet are complete and accurate. This will involve working closely with the transactional finance team and with source systems.
  • Preparing all reporting issued to the business, ensuring that the reporting of results meets stakeholder needs.
  • Preparing the management accounts, including full actual to budget and prior year variance analysis with comprehensive commentary on all material variances for submission to management.
  • Developing and maintaining consistent accounting processes and controls, whilst continually looking for efficiencies and improvements.
  • Preparing and collating budget and forecasting information for the divisional businesses and ensuring appropriate challenges are given to the budget owners.
  • Ensuring that all compliance returns (e.g. VAT, P11D etc) and other submissions are accurately completed and filled on time.
  • Working closely with the divisional SLT team to provide financial support and start the development of business partnering by understanding business requirements, e.g. to provide detailed insight, impact analysis and extending and developing reporting/KPIs for business activities.
  • Acting as the Finance subject matter expert in the further integration of the divisional businesses into the wider company, such as helping implement new systems, and extending divisional processes and policies as appropriate.
  • Managing and providing coaching to direct and indirect reports, ensuring that tasks are completed in a timely and accurate manner in line with established procedures.
  • Assist the Financial Controller and CFO with other project work on an ad hoc basis.

Candidate specification

  • Qualified accountant (CIMA, ACCA, ACA) ideally
  • Ability to liaise with people at all levels of seniority.
  • Ability to think strategically and balance competing priorities.
  • The ability to exercise strong judgement and initiative
  • Strong delegation skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to engage non-Finance colleagues and drive change.
  • Strong teamwork skills.
