MTrec are proudly representing our prestigious manufacturing and engineering client based in Co Durham, are looking to recruit a new Maintenance Technician to join their organisation as a Trainee Controls Engineer. You will be on an incredible pathway, where you will receive industry leading training and development to progress into a full control engineer position. They are looking for someone who has been an apprentice maintenance technician, and then progressed to become a valued member of the maintenance department. On this journey you will have taken a keen interest in machine controls and software, to advance your skills and expertise. You will have been involved in controls projects, where you will be able to programme PLC’s, and be part of a team to install new hardware, software and safety installations on new equipment. This role includes fantastic opportunities for future international travel and career progression for the right candidate. It will also provide an amazing platform for career progression, as you will be on a career pathway for excellent training and development to then become a Controls Engineer within the business.

The Job You’ll Do;

  • Design and commission software and associated hardware on new cells or in in existing lines.
  • Carry out testing of machine safety and related control systems.
  • Manage and progress suppliers against a project timeline.
  • Oversee and plan onsite installations and manage external contractors.
  • Chair meetings and engage and negotiate with internal customers in order to form agreements.
  • Maintain and update facility standards using lessons learned from previous experience.
  • Ensure KPI targets are met on newly installed and existing assembly equipment.
  • Support the Process Development Leader in the progressing and completion of project related tasks.
  • Guide assembly facility suppliers in the design of controls, safety and electrical systems and ensure standards are followed.

About You;

  • HNC or above in a related discipline.
  • Experience in high-volume, fast paced manufacturing.
  • Previous maintenance experience is essential, with a control’s bias.
  • The ability to programme PLC’s.
  • You will be looking for career progression to become a Trainee Controls Engineer to then progress to a Controls Engineer level.
  • Willingness to travel internationally as required, and to be adaptable to business and project requirements.
  • A good understanding of automation, electrical and fluid power systems.
  • Good Understanding of functional machine safety equipment and safety grading requirements.
  • Experience in modifying machine control elements, electrical design and communication protocols.
  • Capable of researching technology information to suit the specific task with minimal guidance.
  • The ability to plan and manage one’s own time and responsibilities with minimal supervision.
  • The ability to modify automated software sequences.
  • A good knowledge of designing production facilities in the aspects of controls, electrical and safety.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to liaise with all departments and suppliers.
