Our Maintenance teams play a vital role in the safe and reliable delivery of gas to our 5.8 million customers, and we have an exciting new opportunity for a Maintenance Craftsperson or Technician, reporting to the Maintenance Team Manager within our operations in Northern Ireland. Successful individuals will be undertaking and overseeing maintenance, fault finding and rebuild works of a more complex nature, while working on our third-party Maintenance and Emergency Response Contracts (MERC), as well as working on SGN owned assets.

I help to keep people safe and warm by undertaking the below responsibilities...

  • You will be competent to undertake routine and non-routine maintenance of mechanical pressure regulating equipment on all pressure regimes from 21mbar to 85bar
  • You will be expected to work towards being an Authorising Engineer to issue Permit to Work’s and a Competent Person for NRO’s
  • Support the Team Manager by managing minor projects on their behalf, cover for them during periods of leave and carry out compliance inspections
  • Participation in both new works and modification projects across the range of assets, from high pressure pipelines through to pressure reduction equipment and industrial metering equipment
  • Assisting with pipeline and E&I orientated tasks as required
  • Participation in an operational standby rota, for which you will receive appropriate remuneration

What you’ll need

  • Ideally you will hold or be working towards an NVQ Level 3 in Pressure Management or equivalent - full training can be given where required.
  • Have a sound knowledge of pressure reduction equipment and the gas transmission and distribution system
  • You will be a highly motivated individual with a sound understanding of one or more of the engineering disciplines that operate across the Maintenance team. You will also have the ability to support the interface with the wider SGN business at an engineering level.
  • You will be able to operate safely and effectively in a planned methodical way or, when necessary, positively in a reactive way.
  • You will have a strong commercial and performance mind-set, with a track record of using innovative solutions to deliver efficiency, value for money and quality for the business
  • You will have excellent communication and customer service skills and will consistently demonstrate our core behaviours.
  • You will be a great team player and have the ability to effectively manage projects and targets and lead teams where necessary.

You will be required to participate in a standby rota and will have a valid driving licence.

If you don’t have all the qualifications, we would still love to hear from you… we provide our own specialised learning and development programs, providing access to learning tools to help you acquire the skills needed to excel in our environment.
