Your role at a glance

Are you looking for a summer internship in Responsible investing? One that develops commercial acumen alongside your technical skills?

We're looking for undergraduates who can answer yes" to the above for our 2024Legal and General Investment Management Summer Internship scheme. If you're successful, you'll join Legal & General's well-regarded Investment Management business, which plays a pivotal role in our continued success.

Over our 8-week programme (starting July 2024) you will be part of a team, working with our colleagues and gaining first-hand experience at working in one of our Responsible investing teams. You will learn about the industry, our clients, and our firm. You will have the opportunity to develop new skills, meet new people and have the chance to add real value to the team you are working with.

Job Description

Responsible investing and active ownership are core to our approach: our very purpose at LGIM it to create a better future through responsible investing. Teams that are dedicated to responsible and sustainable investing work together and across the organisation to integrate environmental, social and governance factors into our investment and stewardship activities, across the asset classes and the varied spectrum of our clients' objectives. These include active ownership and stewardship activities (including actioning voting rights of the shares we hold); company, market and thematic research; investment processes and solutions, across all asset classes and investment styles. Our teams develop the policies, frameworks and strategies that drive our engagement with companies and governments, how we assess sustainability within our investment portfolios, and the products we offer to meet our clients' sustainability objectives.

You will be assigned to one of our investment teams for your 8-week placement which runs throughout July and August. You will also take part in an induction week designed to introduce you to L&G and help prepare you for the remainder of the internship. Over the course of the internship, you will have the chance to interact with different teams, hear from senior speakers and network with your fellow interns. Some of the day-to-day activities you may experience might include:
  • Performing research and due diligence tasks to support decision making
  • Collating information for reporting
  • Preparing PowerPoint presentations for meetings
  • Liaising with key stakeholders and improving team processes with fresh perspectives and ideas
  • Most importantly you will be learning new skills and gaining knowledge of how our business works!
Qualifications

First and foremost, we are looking for people who embody our behaviours:

We're not expecting prior industry experience, but we'll want to see that you have the tools to develop quickly. These include:
  • On track for a 2.1 Degree with a preferable focus on environmental and/or social related topics
  • In your penultimate year of university (i.e. Undergraduate or Masters degree, graduating in 2025)
  • Curious, motivated and have a desire to learn more about Sustainability within Investment Management
  • Analytical mind-set, and ability to undertake deep research into diverse topics
  • Great communication skills
  • Flexible and a team-player
  • High levels of energy, dynamism and commitment
  • Highly organised with the ability to prioritise effectively

Our Assessment process typically involves the following stages, but may vary slightly from scheme to scheme.
  • Application form - Captures essential information and is an opportunity to provide your CV.
  • Online tests - includes multiple choice questions and a video interview. The online test asks a number of behavioural questions to help us understand more about candidates' strengths. There is also an analytical component which assesses numerical reasoning skills. In the video interview, we will ask 3 core questions focusing on motivation to join L&G, as well as the candidates approach to learning.
  • Assessment centre (either face to face or virtual) comprised of:
    • Interview - Conducted by 2 assessors, 45 minutes including time for questions from the candidate, questions include competency and commercial based questions
    • Presentation - 15 minutes in duration, 10 minutes to present and 5 minutes for questions from assessor
