Purpose
We are looking for a funds/asset management lawyer to join as permanent member of the Asset Management Legal team within M&G, providing legal advice and sound commercial risk assessments on legal issues including fund/product structuring, supporting strategic growth and change projects and regulatory change projects.

Key Responsibilities
The role encompasses the full range of asset management skills covering legal advisory, fund/product design, structuring and maintenance, drafting and negotiating fund documentation, investment management / investment advisory agreements and related documentation, regulatory work and supporting the company's strategic projects.

Job & Personal Skills:

This full-time role will cover legal advisory, structuring, product building and supporting key corporate and regulatory change projects.

Key competencies:
  • An understanding of the asset management business/value chain. Ideally, experience and knowledge across various fund jurisdictions (specifically UK, Luxembourg, Ireland) and common fund structures (e.g. SICAVs, ICAVs, OEICs, SIFs, s110s, LPs) and the relevant regulatory framework applicable to asset managers (including AIFMD, UCITs, MiFID, EMIR, SFTR and SFDR)
  • An understanding of fund structures and fund documentation, preferably across various jurisdictions (specifically Luxembourg and ireland) and legal structures, to be in a position to support and guide the business in the development and implementation of new product
  • Drafting experience to include drafting and negotiating investment management agreements, investment advisory agreements, fund documents, AIFM agreements, custody and depositary agreements, side letters and term sheets
  • Ability to work with and manage external counsel in a multi-jurisdictional context
  • Ability to build and develop relationships with key internal stakeholders
  • Capable of acting as business partner to investment and product teams

Qualifications
Qualified lawyer (there is no requirement that the candidate must be English qualified)

Knowledge & Experience
  • Funds/asset management lawyer with 3+ years PQE working in the funds team of a law firm and/or in-house team of an asset manager/financial service provider
  • Strong academic credentials
  • Experience of working in a cross-border environment desirable but not essential
  • Good working knowledge of another European language highly desirable
