SALARY- £55,000 - £70,000, dependent on experience
My client designs and manufactures specialist equipment for a variety of industries. They are looking for a Lead Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team in Southampton on a permanent basis.
The Lead Mechanical Design Engineer will ideally have the following attributes:
- Be a self-starter, with strong leadership skills and the ability to own projects, work independently and implement your own ideas
- At least 5 years’ experience in a similar Mechanical Design Engineering position
- Strong 3D CAD skills with SolidWorks ideally, SolidWorks PDM experience would be preferred
- Degree / HNC / HND / BTEC / NVQ / qualified in Mechanical Engineering or similar
- Experience in Aerospace, Defence or related industries would be beneficial
- Knowledge of sheet metal and machined parts
- Good theoretical mechanical engineering knowledge of core principles and tight tolerances
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
- Proficient using MS Office
- Excellent organisational skills and time management skills
- Have the ability to work well alone as well as part of a small multi-disciplinary team
The Lead Mechanical Design Engineer role will involve:
- Using SolidWorks for concept design and producing technical drawings
- Implementing PDM software
- Hiring and managing 1-2 direct reports
- Liaising with manufacturing providers
- Being involved in final assembly of products
- Creating the required documentation for design as well as project reports / plans
- Updating 3D models and drawings
- Inputting parts into the MRP system creating BOMs
- Checking drawings for sign off
- Working in a small multi-disciplinary team on varied projects
