Lead Data Platform Engineer - £70,000 - Worthing (Hybrid)


Our utilities client is currently seeking a Lead Data Platform Engineer to join their team in Worthing. This will be a hybrid role and you will be required to come into the office 2 days a week. They are looking for a Lead Data Platform Engineer to come and work in our Data and Analytics team to help lead our efforts to improve how we manage and govern the quality and compliance of our data. We're at the start of a huge transformation in how we manage and use data to drive outcomes in a host of key areas, delivering improvements for our internal and external stakeholders.

The Lead Data Platform Engineer will lead our efforts to improve our technical landscape and effectiveness of our data platforms across the data team. We're looking for someone who can provide technical leadership for the team responsible for data and analytics, as well as driving out the cultural change required. The intention is to create a data centre of excellence, ensuring efficient, governed and high-quality data is everyone's responsibility


Responsibilities:

  • Manage all aspects of the Data Platform Team within the wider Data Team, inspire and guide the Data Team to embed best practice
  • Lead the engagement with the IT Strategy and Architecture teams to understand technical direction and ensure strategic and operational alignment around platform set, maintenance & lifecycle management
  • Implement and manage multiple tiers, development, test, pre-production, production environments across the team's data platforms
  • Integrate new data pipelines into the data platform ensuring consistency in design standards, follow agreed standards and processes to ensure the value of data initiatives can be realised in a compliant and controlled manner, ensuring quality, consistency, and safety of the data we work with while protecting our customers privacy.
  • Liaise with internal data governance and security teams to ensure that we are moving towards an approved compliant infrastructure.
  • Set up and own process standards in line with appropriate best practice, be the subject matter expert on data platforms.
  • Keep up-to date with the latest relevant technology, relevant standards, policies and directives.
  • Identify and act upon opportunities for continuous improvement to reduce operational risks, optimise efficiency and improve standards
  • Ensure product roadmaps and any associated remediation plans are in place to address operational risks, take responsibility for the ownership of the service advancement of their technical capability
  • Produce and maintain operations manuals/run books for the associated services for this team, in line with corporate standards


About you:

  • Looking for people with a passion for infrastructure, software and data, knowing the difference it can make to organisations.
  • Cloud Platform experience
  • Troubleshooting, Diagnostics & Event Log/Management
  • Significant experience in data management, data warehousing, data modelling, data science and reporting / analytics processes.
  • Awareness of Azure technical landscape and Apache Spark engines
  • Working with Azure data platform and toolset, such as Databricks, Data Factory, Data Lake, Event Hub, SQL, and analysis services
  • Knowledge of PowerBI, R Studio and Alteryx server management Unix and Linux fundamentals
  • The use of source control, code repositories and release management technologies
  • Excellent inter-personal skills to ensure effective and efficient communication.
  • Ability to understand the complex relationship of data to business processes and IT.
  • Capable of bridging the gap between business, data and IT.
  • Strategic and forward thinking, able to take a balanced overview of SW's data platform needs Proven self-management and supervisory/guidance experience
