Junior Gas and Power Broker

As a Junior Gas and Power Broker, you will play a vital role in supporting the gas and power trading activities of our brokerage firm. You will work closely with senior brokers and clients to facilitate transactions, analyze market trends, and provide exceptional service to meet their trading needs. This role offers an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the energy trading industry and develop valuable skills in negotiation, market analysis, and relationship management.

Responsibilities:

  • Trade Execution: Assist senior brokers in executing gas and power trades on behalf of clients, including spot transactions, futures contracts, and options. Enter trade orders accurately and efficiently into trading systems, ensuring timely execution and settlement.
  • Market Analysis: Monitor gas and power market trends, including supply and demand dynamics, price movements, regulatory developments, and weather forecasts. Analyze market data and prepare reports to inform trading strategies and decision-making.
  • Client Management: Build and maintain relationships with clients, including energy producers, utilities, financial institutions, and industrial consumers. Understand their trading objectives, risk profiles, and hedging needs, and provide tailored solutions to meet their requirements.
  • Negotiation: Negotiate trade terms, prices, and contracts with counterparties to achieve favorable outcomes for clients and the brokerage firm. Actively participate in price discovery and market-making activities to facilitate liquidity and market efficiency.
  • Risk Management: Assist in managing the risk exposure of client portfolios and proprietary trading positions. Collaborate with risk management teams to monitor market risks, implement hedging strategies, and ensure compliance with risk limits and regulatory requirements.
  • Market Research: Conduct research and analysis on gas and power markets, industry trends, and competitive landscape. Stay informed about market fundamentals, technological advancements, and policy developments that may impact trading strategies and market dynamics
  • Administrative Support: Provide administrative support to senior brokers, including maintaining trade records, preparing client documentation, and coordinating logistics for client meetings and events. Ensure compliance with internal policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, engineering, or related field. Knowledge of energy markets preferred.
  • Previous experience in financial services, commodities trading, or brokerage operations is advantageous but not required.
  • Strong interest in energy markets, trading principles, and financial instruments, with a willingness to learn and develop new skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with clients and work effectively in a team environment.
  • Analytical mindset, with the ability to interpret market data, identify trading opportunities, and make informed decisions under pressure.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and familiarity with trading platforms or systems is desirable.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and attention to detail in all aspects of work.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize tasks, and adapt to changing market conditions in a fast-paced trading environment.
