E.ON UK operates one of the largest Street Lighting Contracting businesses in the UK with a large presence in the East and West Midlands as well as the North West of England. We have four Street Lighting PFI's and work for most local authorities in the areas we operate in. We operate as an ICP and carry out jointing associated with the installation and connection of electrical networks for most of the housing developers in the UK. We have agreements to work on the DNO and IDNO networks in the UK and we are now looking at expanding and growing our Independent Connections Provider business.

As a Jointer you’ll be responsible for the installation and wiring of street lighting and highway electrical street furniture. This includes basic testing of single items of apparatus and fault finding on private networks including service cable transfers and service cable mains connections to DNO/IDNO networks.

Key Activities

  • Basic testing and inspection to BS7671.
  • Excavation and reinstatement in multiple surface types to current NRSWA standards.
  • Driving general and specialist company vehicles appropriate to the role.
  • Attending call outs as required which will require participating in a 24 hours standby rota for emergency attendance.
  • Working in a safe manner and in accordance with the Company’s Health, Safety, Environment and Quality policies and procedures.
  • Complying with operational working practices, method statements and associated risk assessments.
  • Taking full ownership for personal health and safety responsibilities and those working around you or affected by your operations.
  • Ensuring correct selection and use of company provided PPE and equipment as required by the relevant risk assessment and method statements relating to each work activity.

What we need from you

  • Electrical qualification C & G 236 Parts 1 & 2 / 2330 Level 2 & 3.
  • Relevant authorisation to carry out service connections to DNO/IDNO networks.
  • An appropriate NVQ (e.g. C&G 6156) or equivalent qualification in highway excavation and reinstatement.
  • A current NRSWA qualification (Units 1-9).
  • An appropriate G39 qualification.
  • A CSCS accreditation via the Highways Electrical Registration Scheme (HERS) is preferred
  • A current full driving licence to drive vehicles up to 7500Kg (C1) or C (HGV).
  • A current and relevant First Aid and Manual Handling certificate.
  • A high degree of manual dexterity and ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • A good understanding of the Highways Lighting business.
  • A good working knowledge of company Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality procedures.
  • The ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
  • The ability to take a professional, courteous, confident and diplomatic approach to customers at all times.
