An esteemed University in London is seeking a Head of Building Services to lead on all estate matters, ensuring exemplary service and upholding the institution’s values. This strategic and operational leadership role is central to maintaining high standards across the University’s premises and facilities, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and fostering a safe and thriving educational environment.

Day to Day of the Role:
  • Develop and implement a strategic approach to Estates Management, proactively identifying potential issues.
  • Provide leadership on all matters relating to the University’s premises and facilities.
  • Ensure efficient operation of all sites, adhering to Health and Safety regulations.
  • Directly liaise with senior staff on estate issues, incorporating their feedback.
  • Oversee maintenance, ensuring best value for money and high standards of cleanliness.
  • Manage allocated budgets, including the distribution and monitoring of materials.
  • Conduct site inspections to identify building defects and maintenance needs.
  • Maintain security and admittance procedures in line with safeguarding protocols.
  • Act as a key holder for out-of-hours alarm activation and site access.
  • Lead the facilities team in maintenance and security planning for University premises.
  • Coordinate team schedules to ensure adequate site coverage at all times.
  • Conduct performance management, set priorities, and review team progress.
  • Delegate repair tasks and ensure new team members receive proper training.
  • Support the Finance department by maintaining the inventory and asset register.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • HND/HNC in a relevant field (Facilities Management/Building Services)
  • NEBOSH/IOSH Qualifications
  • Proven experience in Estates and Facilities Management within an educational or similar setting.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage teams.
  • Knowledge of statutory Health & Safety obligations and experience as a ‘competent’ person.
  • Ability to chair Health and Safety Committees and lead briefings.
  • Experience with risk assessments, including Fire Risk Assessments.
  • Proficiency in managing budgets and resources effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to liaise with various stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with performance management processes and continuous professional development.
