I am currently recruiting for a Housing Solutions Officer to work at my client, a leading local authority based in Sheffield (S1, with some travel to other sites). 

This is a fantastic opportunity to join the busy, exciting Housing Solutions service. We take homeless applications and work within a statutory framework to progress homeless cases in line with legal requirements. We provide housing advice, assess households in housing need and provide the best available support and housing options for households experiencing homelessness.

Your overall job will be to to assist with the smooth and effective delivery of the Housing Solutions Service through direct public contact, to undertake casework and to prevent homelessness, hospital admissions and delayed discharges from a range of supported and institutional accommodation and care. 

Duties include:

  • Interview clients, undertake housing need and homeless assessments within statutory and policy frameworks, provide advice, ongoing support and maintain client contact
  • Carrying out home visits or visits to hospitals and other relevant sites
  • Provide information on all available housing, support and other related services
  • Assist clients to access specialist support services as required (for example, advocacy services, tenancy support, equipment and adaptations, city wide alarms)
  • Produce and present reports including making recommendations on any aspect of the Housing Solutions Service

To be successful in this role, you will:

  • Have a good understanding of housing needs of vulnerable people specific to your duties and responsibilities

  • Have knowledge of housing legislation and other law relevant to housing advice and homelessness, experience of homelessness assessments or advice work- desirable

  • Have the ability to meet deadlines
  • Creating and maintaining positive working relationships with staff from a variety of agencies.
  • Manage case work and make appropriate decisions
  • Have customer service experience
  • Have experience of working in a busy environment 
  • Have experience of dealing with difficult customers 

This role is full time hours, Monday-Friday from 9am-5.30pm, with a pay rate of £14.79 per hour.

The role is office based, and hybrid working is only available on an occasional basis.
