Matching Staff Solutions are working alongside our client to find a Housing Options Officer based in Tiverton. This role is on a contract starting in May until September 2024. The purpose of this role is to provide a professional housing advice, housing waiting list, and homelessness service to those in need of affordable housing.

Monday to Friday 08:30am - 17:00pm

The Role

Your main duties will include:

  • To maintain an up-to-date knowledge and awareness of legislation and case law.
  • Attend home visits and other venues as appropriate to provide a housing advice service to members of the public.
  • Interview and assist those persons who believe themselves to be homeless or threatened with homelessness giving advice on their housing options
  • Help prevent homelessness by directing applicants to the appropriate advice and assistance
  • Make formal decisions on homeless applications.
  • Ensure that Bed and Breakfast accommodation, short life and other temporary accommodation is available to meet the needs of those who are homeless.
  • Maintain regular contact with Housing Associations and other providers of affordable housing and assist them with the Devon Home Choice management of vacancies as appropriate.

The Candidate

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Good standard of education including English and Maths
  • Experience of working with the public in an advice-giving capacity or in a customer-orientated work environment.
  • A working knowledge of Homeless legislation and case law, and Housing legislation.
  • Good administrative skills with a demonstrable ability to manage a diverse workload.
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines.
  • Must be able to drive and have daily use of a vehicle.
