Reed Secure is a specialist provider of permanent, contract, temporary and outsourced recruitment solutions for security cleared professionals.

We require a Housing Options Adviser to cover an existing workload within Salford City Council, based in Swinton (Office based).

This is an interim position for an initial 3-6 months with the potential to be extended, dependent on workload.

Job Purpose:

  • The main purpose of this role is to contribute towards the efficient and effective management of the Housing Options Service through various channels including the promotion and maintenance of excellent standards of customer service based on service provision.  
  • This role will deal with enquiries that assist customers with individual queries, prevention of homelessness and review enquiries and decisions around homelessness. 
  • Officers should also have knowledge of the allocations policy and Choice based lettings system. 
  • The ability to coordinate and monitor cases referred to and moved on from Supported schemes, managing tenancies of customers in Temporary accommodation, knowledge of Housing Benefits and the ability to manage rent accounts is also desirable.

Skills and experience needed to be successful in this role:

  • Requires in-depth knowledge and experience of processing homelessness applications in line with Homelessness Reduction Act.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Experience in dealing with customers in a range of environments, dealing with conflict and difficult situations.
  • Ability to communicate confidently with excellent interpersonal and organisational skills.
  • Demonstrates high ability and skill to organise and prioritise caseload.
  • Up to date knowledge of issues that affect vulnerable people and available solutions.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience of the Housing Act 1996 part 6 and part 7 and of the Homelessness Act 2002.
  • Ability to interpret and absorb complex information whilst building a working knowledge of legislation, policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and responsibilities, understanding the need to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and vulnerable adults is priority.
  • Proven experience of successfully achieving KPI’s/Targets on both an individual and team level.
  • Previous Experience in dealing with vulnerable customers and customers who may display challenging and disagreeable behaviour.
  • Demonstrates ability to handling crisis situations under pressure.

This role offers a competitive salary of £16.57 per hour PAYE (Umbrella rate available) and you’ll be working via Reed who offer great benefits such as discounts, cashback offers and more as well as weekly pay.
