I am working with Kirkby High School (L32 9PP) to find them a permanent Higher Level Teaching Assistant to work in the Inclusion Room, a quiet space for pupils integrating back into regular lessons. You will be working with between one and eight pupils at a time. You'll work independently but with support from other professionals whenever needed.

This role would suit an adaptable person with calm nature and the ability to build relationships and work independently.

You will be given lots of support, including shadowing and a structured induction, and training. You'll also benefit from an excellent local authority pension.

Important Details:

  • Actual salary is £19,724 - £21,477.
  • Automatic annual pay rise.
  • Working 40 weeks per year.
  • Grade F, SCP points 12-17.
  • 5 hours per week / 40 weeks per year (includes 5 inset days).
  • 30 to 15:30 Monday to Friday.
  • No working from home.

Duties of the HLTA:

  • Plan interesting sessions that meet students' different needs and interests.
  • Create a safe and purposeful learning space, pick suitable resources, and use technology to help students learn independently.
  • Teach students individually and in groups using provided strategies and resources.
  • Watch how students respond to teaching and let teachers know if things aren't going as expected.
  • Help teaching assistants and volunteers, giving them tasks, and sharing good ideas.
  • Encourage teamwork and good behaviour and give feedback on how students are doing.
  • Check how well students are learning and use that to plan future lessons.
  • Talk to parents about how their children are doing and involve them in their learning.
  • Administer tests to figure out what help students might need.
  • Work with other professionals to help students.
  • Help plan activities outside of school that build on what's learned in class.
  • Manage special projects.

The HLTA must have/be:

  • Level 2 in English and Maths or equivalent is essential.
  • Be passionate about supporting education.
  • Bring energy and enthusiasm to the role.
  • Be flexible and adaptable in a busy educational environment.
  • Have the ability to work well in a team and independently.
  • Have a working knowledge of safeguarding policies and procedures.
  • Have the ability to relate to young people.
  • Be able to inspire, influence, challenge and motivate, leading by example.

An Advantage but not Essential:

  • Teaching Assistant Level 3 qualification is desirable.
