Six Degrees Recruitment are assisting a national distributor of construction materials in their search for a Health & Safety Advisor. Our client prioritise health and safety (H&S) above all else. The role will be predominantly based at the recent refurbished HQ in North Cumbria with occasional travel to other sites. There is an opportunity to work Hybrid, but with a requirement to be able to access the HQ on a frequent basis. They as a business have developed a strong H&S culture, and this role leads the further development of this culture to ensure the safety and well-being of our staff, customers, and operations.

Here are the key responsibilities:

  1. Behavioural Safety:

Promote a safety-conscious mindset among employees.

Encourage safe behaviours and practices through the use of near miss reporting, H&S campaigns and education.

2. Site Safety:

Support and monitor yard, branch, and transport safety.

Ensure compliance with safety regulations and policy and procedures.

3. Fire Safety and Compliance:

Implement fire safety protocols.

Ensure fire risk assessments are adhered

Fire alarm testing and mock evacuations are carried out

4. Accident Investigation and Prevention:

Investigate accidents/incidents and recommend preventive measures.

Maintain accident records.

5. Risk Assessment Review:

Review and update risk assessments.

Identify potential hazards.

6. Process Improvement and Documentation:

Enhance existing H&S processes.

Document procedures and guidelines.

7. Internal Audits and Administration:

Conduct internal audits to assess compliance.

Manage H&S documentation.

8. Best Practice Implementation:

Determine best practices for safe operations.

Facilitate their adoption across the business.

9. Compliance Training:

Provide H&S training to staff.

Ensure legal compliance through continuous professional development (CPD).

10. Flexibility and Influence:

Build strong working relationships throughout the business, gaining trust.

Influence colleagues at all levels to prioritise safety.

Key Relationships

Role reports into the Head of HR

Branch operations team which includes the Operations Manager and the three supporting Network Managers, as well as the Branch Managers around the UK.

Transport team.

Qualifications

To excel in this role, you should have:

Experience as an H&S Officer and be in a lead role or ready to step up.

NEBOSH certification or equivalent.

Additional Information

Salary: £35,000 to £38,000 per annum.

Hybrid working options available.

Office location: Near Carlisle.

Travel to sites across the UK (likely a few days per month
