Summary

We are recruiting for a Head of Public Fundraising to join our team on a 24-month FTC.

 You’ll be a leader who can advocate effectively for our core purpose, reminding people internally and externally that we are a charity. You’ll appreciate the ambition and drive to deliver growth in our public fundraising engagement and income, whilst recognising that we are part of an organisation with many priorities.

You’ll work effectively with membership and marketing colleagues to grow support and integrate public fundraising. Alongside this, you will bring a fresh perspective to the recently formed leadership team for fundraising, creating the right environment for growth and a long-term growth strategy for fundraising.

You’ll be someone who can effectively lead and inspire a passionate team. You’ll love working collaboratively, sharing, networking across the organisation and facing into challenges to get the right outcomes.

Please be aware that this role that involves travel and some overnight stays when required.

Our Head Office in Swindon will be your contractual location, you will need to be there for meetings and as most of your team are based there, it’s important you are too. At other times, though, you can choose your base of operations, which includes our London office. You will be expected to spend 40–60% of your working week at a National Trust site. What you'll be doing

This role presents an exceptional opportunity for individuals seeking to contribute to a transformative initiative, shaping the future of public fundraising at the Trust. You'll play a key role in enhancing existing initiatives such as Plant a Tree, while leveraging your expertise and collaborative spirit to foster innovation alongside colleagues in Membership, Marketing & Communications, and broaden the Trust's reach to new demographics. 

Your focus will be on enhancing supporter experiences and fundraising efforts across the organisation, fostering strong internal partnerships, particularly with the Marketing and Communications teams. Your responsibilities will include supporting the team in executing current plans, as well as identifying and developing growth opportunities in Legacy Development, Regular Giving, and a major fundraising campaign. As the strategic lead for Public Fundraising, you will drive strategy and performance in Fundraising, Growing Support, and other relevant areas within the National Trust.

  • Extensive senior experience in leading complex and successful public fundraising programmes/campaigns in a charity setting which includes multiple income streams.
  • Experience of building high performing teams.
  • Experience developing strategic plans and budgets and managing teams to turn these into cohesive operational plans with clearly identified and managed risks.
  • Proven track record leading a Public Fundraising portfolio, with proven results in innovation and driving significant growth across a million+ portfolio of supporters.
  • Results orientated with a real drive and passion for delivering results in a growing area.
  • Proven experience of creating a positive culture which embraces change, performance and innovation.
  • Proven self-starter with demonstrable commitment to personal professional development and those in your team, with an eye for detail and excellent communications skills.
