GROUP LEGAL COUNSEL

With a focus on limiting risk exposure, providing strategic legal advice to executives, and managing internal governance policies, you will be the effective guardian of our organisation and facilitate business strategy development. 

Your experience in dealing with complex matters and creating associations of trust and respect with key external parties will allow you to draft agreements that minimise risk while maximising legal rights. 

Specifically, the role of Group Legal Counsel will involve:  

  • Providing expert and strategic legal counsel to Board executives and senior management 
  • Establishing internal governance policies and navigating the impact of external factors 
  • Advising on and handling all corporate legal processes such as acquisitions, compliance matters, transactions and agreements 
  • Fostering strong relationships with key external stakeholders 
  • Crafting agreements that minimize risks and maximize legal rights 
  • Handling complex and high-profile matters that span multiple legal and related areas 
  • Structuring, draft, and review reports and other legal documents 

The candidate: 

We're seeking a commercially astute and experienced General Counsel who is adept at navigating the complex landscape of corporate legal affairs. In addition, we’ll expect you to demonstrate:  

  • Project management and property experience 
  • Overall broad legal knowledge (corporate law, litigations, labour law, etc) 
  • In-depth understanding of how legal issues affect organisations 
  • An ability to develop legal strategy and objectives 
  • A degree in Law, preferable dual Scots and English qualified, backed by a high degree of professional ethics, integrity and gravitas 
  • Excellent judgement and analytical skills, alongside first class interpersonal and communication skills 
  • The ability to anticipate legal issues or risks and to “see around the corner”
