Barnsley Council are seeking a Group Leader Depot Services to join the team based in Barnsley. You will be working on a full time, permanentand in return, you will receive a competitive salary of £52,889 - £56,633 per annum.

About the Group Leader Depot Services role:

We’re excited to be recruiting to our Environment and Transport Business Unit as part of the Commercial and Operational Service Support Team with this exciting opportunity to lead our Depot Services Team.

This is centred around managing complex Depot operations, Fleet management and Workshop operations, Safety and Environmental compliance and Stores and Parts management.

The successful candidate will lead a multi skilled interdepartmental team who will contribute to and improve delivery of the Councils vision priorities and values ensuring best practice, of national guidelines and legislation.

This role encourages continuous professional development including a requirement to hold and/or gain a Transport Manager CPC qualification to support our Operators Licence compliance.

The main duties of our Group Leader Depot Services include:

  • To provide leadership and line management for a significant range and volume of human, financial and physical resources within defined services, providing direction and coordination of workloads, support and guidance dealing with recruitment, motivation, training, welfare and discipline issues.
  • To act as a Transport Manager in support and governance of BMBC Operators Licence
  • To provide strong leadership to develop high performing teams and a positive Safety Health Environmental and quality performance culture and daily practice.
  • To work across a broad range of disciplines to develop, lead and deliver joined up solutions to service and strategy delivery.
  • Provide unbiased professional advice, guidance and support to internal and external stakeholders including the Senior Management Team and Council Members on all aspects of the strategic and operational delivery of the service
  • Undertake budget management and financial planning, setting budgets, appropriately allocating funds, authorise and monitor income and significant expenditure and maximise all funding opportunities to ensure service development, sustainability, contract and external audit compliance.
  • Contribute and manage the development of systems and processes to ensure effective performance management frameworks, systems and accountabilities with external partners.
  • Manage and be accountable for high level risk and decision making in relation to the delivery of strategy, projects and operational services, where applicable, as defined by relevant legislation

What you’ll need as our Group Leader Depot Services:

We are looking for an experienced and forward-thinking transformational leader to provide strategic leadership, management, development, and continuous improvement of an efficient internal and external customer focused Service.

The ideal candidate will be educated to Level 6 in Leadership and Management and hold a relevant level 5 professional qualification or extensive experience and knowledge of depot operations.
