Have you recently completed an English Lit/Lang degree with a 2:1 or higher from a prestigious Russell Group University?

Do you harbour a desire to share your expertise with secondary school students, engaging them in understanding the importance of communication, narratives, genre etc?

Perhaps you are considering a career in Education, but would like to get a feel for teaching before committing to a PGCE or similar?

An oversubscribed secondary school based in Tameside is hoping to attract a confident and highly-academic recent English Graduate to join their team of over 80 teachers as a Graduate English Academic Mentor. The Senior Leadership Team at this school are newly committed to a journey of improvement; redefining the Tameside institution’s reputation and ensuring that the faculty have every opportunity to deliver the calibre of education that their students deserve. An outgoing, confident individual with proven subject expertise is required for this Graduate English Academic Mentor role.

As a Graduate English Academic Mentor, you will assist the classroom leader in delivering high-quality, engaging lesson plans. Alongside your assistance to the class teacher, you will offer support to students who are falling behind on their academic progress – personalizing your approach to reflect the varied needs of these young learners. This individualised support will take place in a small-group or 1:1 basis, and presents the opportunity to develop exceptional teaching skills – always under the guidance of the teaching team.

Under constant supervision and guidance from the classroom leader, you will be a key player in ensuring that students at this Tameside school develop crucial skills within language, analysis and critical thinking. Depending on your academic background, you may also support the Performing Arts department in their theatre productions, or assist the inclusion department in helping students develop their language and communication skills. As such, this Graduate English Academic Mentor role represents an exciting opportunity to gain varied and invaluable hands-on classroom experience.
