Formulation Chemist - Project Technologist

Permanent role

West Yorkshire

Circa £25,000-£30,000 (may be flexible depending on skills/experience)

We are pleased to be working with an innovative company engaged in polymers research.

The company delivers cutting edge solutions to rapidly evolving industries and allows businesses to seize opportunities in technology and maximise their potential.

This role will work in their polymer systems design, development and manufacturing. The individual recruited will work in a specific field, detailed below, though with room for progression and latitude around other product categories as well.

The overall role will be to formulate products which keep ahead of the curve on emerging trends and challenges in the materials sector.

What you’ll do:

You will be working on formulation of niche products for the energy market, these products will then go on to have what we would all regard as a very hard life… your formulations will help products work whether they are at the bottom of an ocean under huge pressure, freezing on an offshore windfarm or being buffeted by currents in a storm, and all the while these polymers will be being exposed to saltwater but required to perform optimally.

The role will tackle specific issues, such as the environment the polymer will need to work in but also properties that it needs to have. Mechanical performance, heat resistance, longevity of lifecycle and ecological compatibility being just some that need to be factored into formulations.

You will be formulating polymers (such as polyurethanes, elastometic liquids…) and running trials to learn about performance and then applying ideas to improve this. The role will look at things like long-term aging of polymers in situ, and applying chemical solutions to this.

The role will involve a good knowledge of formulation that is being constantly also developed, and suit well someone who is curious and wants to learn about their field. By applying knowledge of chemistry you will make new products and have an impact on the company and energy industry.

Your background:

We are seeking a chemistry or materials science graduate who has skills in formulation. This can come from any market and indeed these may be transferrable from another role (analytical, synthesis etc… we’re keen to hear from candidates in chemistry fields and think outside the box).

You will be able to apply this chemical literacy to your projects, which will see you using practical laboratory skills, project management skills, organisational skills and communication skills.

The company employs over 100 people so you will have a large group around you to collaborate with. While this role will focus on the categories in energy, there are other areas to this business you can be also involved in. Progression and personal development will follow from your application to this role.

On this occasion, LiCa Scientific is acting as an employment agency.
