My client has been established for over 40 years and is about to embark in their next stage of growth and diversifying the business. These are exciting times for the business, currently a chain of 3 restaurants based in Cardiff with plans of launching new products for supermarkets. My client is looking for an experienced Financial Controller in the leisure and restaurant business to assist them in order to grow the business.

As a hands-on Financial Controller in the restaurant business, you will play a crucial role in managing the financial aspects of the operation and the next stages of its growth. You will be responsible for the finance and accounts of 3 restaurants and the future revenue streams coming into the group.

Responsibilities

Weekly reporting preparation:

  • Prepare the weekly overview reports for the 3 restaurants.
  • Presenting the reports in the weekly meetings
  • Liaising with restaurant managers in the matters of daily takings, cashing up, timesheets and payroll documentation
  • Organising training for restaurant managers and supervisors
  • Manage cash flow to ensure the restaurant has sufficient funds for daily operations.
  • Oversee the handling of cash and ensure proper controls are in place

Cost Control

  • Monitor and control costs, including food and beverage costs, labor costs, and overhead expenses
  • Implement cost-saving measures without compromising quality or customer satisfaction

Financial Reporting

  • Prepare regular financial reports, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cashflow statements
  • Provide timely and accurate financial information to management for decision-making

Payroll

  • Review HR-related paperwork before submitted for payroll processing.
  • Review staff hours on a weekly basis (in our time and attendance system) and prepare information ready for payroll processing.
  • Work with managers to ensure they forecast payroll/rota in advance.

Internal Controls

  • Establish and maintain internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure the accuracy of financial records.
  • Implement and monitor policies and procedures related to financial transactions

Inventory Management

  • Implement effective inventory control procedures to minimize waste and losses.
  • Monitor and analyze inventory levels and costs.

Accounting & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with accounting principles and standards.
  • Supervise and manage accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.
  • Work with external auditors and tax professionals to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements

As a Financial Controller and key part of the management team you will be required to be in the office 5 days a week as this is a hands on role with much to do. You will be a key stakeholder and main point of contact for the various levels of management.

We are looking for someone who is strong in systems, processes and controls and comes from a similar industry background restaurants or hotels. Ideally you will be qualified but those qualified by experience will also be considered.
