JOB TITLE: Finance Officer (Banking)

LOCATION: Ealing, West London (Hybrid working 1-2 days a week)

PAY RATE: £18.04 paye / £23.70 umbrella per hour

DURATION/HOURS: 3 months (possible extension)/ Mon-Fri 36 hours

START DATE: ASAP

Role purpose:

  • To be responsible for assisting in the efficient and effective accounting and provision of information on all income received by the Council.
  • To ensure that all income received in the Councils cash office and other establishments are banked on a timely basis.
  • To be responsible for assisting in the management control and accounting of all Credit Card income collected by the council.
  • To be responsible for identifying the budget codes to be credited with the income as declared on Remittance advices received by the council.
  • To be responsible for assisting in providing customers of the council with a high quality customer relationship service.

Key accountabilities:

  • To ensure that the income recorded on the Cashiers C& D book is reconciled to the income recorded on Civica Income Management system.
  • To ensure that the income recorded on the Cashiers is credited to the Council's main Lloyds bank account within the agreed timescales.
  • To reconcile the income recorded on the Civica system for the various Santander and NatWest Bank Accounts to the income on the relevant Bank Statements and ensure that the income is transferred to the Councils main bank account within the agreed timescales.
  • To reconcile the income recorded on the Civica system for the Council's various Head Office Collection Accounts to the income on the relevant bank statements and ensure the income is transferred to the council's main bank account within the agreed timescales.
  • To ensure that the services receive their Bank statements and relevant paying in slips on a timely basis.
  • To work with all council establishments and the customer service centre to ensure that they generate daily reconciliations together with the budget codes to be credited for all credit card income.
  • To reconcile income received on the various merchant numbers in the councils main bank account to the income reconciliations received from the establishments.
  • Maintain a record of all remittance advices received by the council. Contact service areas as necessary and obtain the budget codes income is to be credited to.
  • To run reports on the Civica system as well as the Agresso financial system to investigate and resolve queries regarding income received by the council.
  • Ensure that all internal and external inquiries are logged and responded to accurately and promptly and confirmation that the customer is satisfied is obtained.
  • To manage own workload to ensure individual performance targets and team objectives are met.
  • To undertake any other relevant duties or instructions allocated to the officer.

Knowledge, skills & experience:

  • An understanding of Accounting principles.
  • Detailed knowledge of accounting for Income.
  • Ability to work to a high degree of accuracy with good numeracy skills.
  • Ability to manipulate financial information on spreadsheets.
  • Ability to input financial information and make the best use of computer systems.
  • Ability to organise and prioritise own workload to ensure individual targets and team deadlines are met.
  • Proven experience of working within an accountancy division.
  • Proven experience of using a range of IT systems
