Robert Half are excited to exclusively recruit a dynamic SME Financial Controller who will bridge the gap between the CEO and finance team. The ideal candidate will be motivated, eager to take charge, and capable of building and leading a team from scratch.

The successful candidate will report and work closely with the CEO to navigate expansion of their Group companies. Responsibilities include overseeing the finance operations, driving infrastructure enhancements, systems development and staying updated on territorial regulations.

Working pattern: Remote, once per month meet ups near Heathrow. Must be currently based in the UK.

Role & Responsibilities:

  • Lead and supervise all finance team functions, including technical accounting, AR/ AP, income, and management accounts for group companies.
  • Assist CEO in internal financial control procedures and systems development projects.
  • Collaborate with in-house development for finance projects and reporting enhancement.
  • Prepare reports on key financial performance indicators for board and executive review.
  • Communicate with B2B partners to resolve queries and produce reporting information.
  • Provide technical support on taxation issues to senior managers and finance staff.
  • Manage monthly and annual accounts process, including group consolidations.
  • Ensure payroll runs are reconciled and maintain effective reporting and controls.
  • Assist in foreign currency planning and treasury account management.
  • Liaise with external auditors and ensure timely responses to queries.
  • Contribute to building the immediate finance team and budget-setting model.
  • Travel within the UK or Overseas may be required.
  • Strong relationship-building and collaboration skills.

Successful Finance Controller Requirements:

  • Accountancy qualification (CIMA/ACCA/ACA).
  • Experience in subscription-based or insurance businesses.
  • Proficiency in Group Accounts consolidation and foreign currency management.
  • Knowledge of financial ledgers and reporting systems, with Excel proficiency.
  • Effective communication with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience in producing reports for senior management.
  • Budget setting, financial planning, and management reporting expertise.
  • Development and implementation of financial policies and procedures.
  • Experience in managing, mentoring, and supervising staff.
