Your new company
Hays Accountancy & Finance are pleased to be partnering with a global player in the offshore energy market in their search for an ambitious Part-Qualified or Finance Business Partner / Qualified Management Accountant to produce detailed management accounts as well as being involved in the costing of projects and reviewing financial contract costs for this manufacturing business.

The organisation has seen huge business growth in the last year due to a recent acquisition, and currently they are working on various projects worth £12m - £20m+ with more exciting times ahead.

They have a strong upwards growth trajectory with a turnover averaging circa £5m over the previous two years and 2024 marks a significant step-up with turnover, supported by awarded contracts anticipated to reach £11m rising to £90m in 2029 with a confirmed order book in excess of £400m.

Your new role
In this newly created Finance Business Partnering / Management / Project Accountant job, you will take the lead on the production of monthly management accounts, which will include checking the finance teams' ledger at month-end close, reviewing and improving internal controls to streamline and improve reporting.

Apart from the standard management pack to include accruals, prepayments, journals and variances on costs, you will support the Head of Finance with detailed forecasting on projected income and project costs.

The project accounting element of your duties will be crucial to this organisation's growth as they have a full order book of projects which, as explained, can be worth up to £20m+ per project, so this is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to develop their monthly reporting skills further into project costings in the fast-paced offshore energy sectors.

Previous experience of project costings is not essential as you will be supported by the Head of Finance and Project Managers, but you must be able to demonstrate proven experience in producing detailed monthly management account packs with commentary on variances etc. It is expected you will be an advanced user of Excel as you will be managing large volumes of data to update the project spends and produce detailed financial forecasts.

As explained, a key element of the role will involve monitoring project performance and further developing project controls and reporting; therefore, the role requires a sound understanding of accounting in a project environment and requires professionalism, accuracy, and dynamic management of the process. Collaboration is essential, closely working with Service Delivery Departments, to deliver commercial insight, through dynamic, analytical reporting to ultimately aid decision-making and steer performance. You will also drive continuous improvement in systems, controls, and processes, streamlining where possible, to create efficiencies and scalable solutions in all day-to-day finance activities, capable of meeting the business's challenges and ambitions.

Included in your role, you will take responsibility for producing detailed cash flow forecasting with a specific focus on any amendments to the project build which may have a direct effect on costs which will have to be agreed and signed-off to ensure correct invoices can be raised and collected. This is the reason we are looking for an all-round commercially aware management accountant who can report on the wider picture of reporting, ideally with a manufacturing or engineering background, but then again, an experienced Management Accountant will understand the core principles of project accounting.

What you'll need to succeed
You will be at least a Part-Qualified or Qualified Accountant with proven experience of producing detailed monthly management and advanced Excel. Any experience of project costings would be an advantage, ideally from a manufacturing or engineering background, due to the nature of their projects.

However, an experienced Management Accountant will understand the principle of what is required regarding variance reporting, cash flow management, balance sheet, updating the fixed asset register and detailed forecasting, which is crucial to this role.

What you'll get in return
The business offers an attractive benefits package and a salary of between £45,000 - £55,000+ depending on experience, as they will consider ambitious Part-Qualified Accountants who have solid management accounting experience and wish to develop their costings experience or a Qualified Accountant who has covered a similar role and wishes to support the Head of Finance.
