Permanent Finance Assistant Job in the Legal Sector

Our client, a prestigious and award-winning commercial set of barristers’ chambers based near Fleet Street, has a fantastic permanent job opportunity available for an experienced Finance Assistant.

This role will initially be mainly transactional in nature but will develop rapidly to encompass responsibility for the management and financial accounts for two entities. The successful candidate will be integral to the accounts team and will provide essential support to the Head of Finance.

Core duties of the Finance Assistant will include:

  • Maintaining accurate financial and accounting records using Sage Line 50
  • Overseeing and weekly reconciliation of the bank accounts
  • Producing monthly cash flow forecasts
  • Updating and maintenance of Fixed Asset Register including monthly calculation and processing of depreciation
  • Monthly balance sheet reconciliations and workpapers, including posting of journals
  • Producing monthly management accounts and financial reporting pack, including profit & loss, balance sheet and cash flow
  • Assisting the HoF with the annual budget preparation covering profit & loss, balance sheet and cash flow including updating of workpapers
  • Preparing and reconciling quarterly VAT return
  • Ensuring the purchase, sales and bank transactions are processed in an efficient, accurate and timely manner
  • Processing, approval, payment and filing of supplier invoices in electronic form
  • Weekly and monthly supplier payment runs and Supplier statement reconciliation
  • Recording and approval of Chambers’ credit card transactions and staff expense claims
  • Producing within ten working days of the end of the VAT quarter the members’ VAT reports to enable them to complete their VAT submissions
  • Liaising with external accountants and HMRC as required

This position requires a detail-oriented and structured approach to tasks. Proficiency in Sage Line 50 will be a significant advantage, as will the ability to confidently communicate and collaborate with internal and external parties.
