Role: Finance Assistant

Salary: £25,000 to £30,000 depending on experience

Location: Wakefield

Hours: Full Time Permanent 37.5 hours per week - Office based Monday to Friday

The Company & Team

We are a manufacturing company producing insulated glass units. Our passion is making quality products, keeping our customers happy and doing it together as a team. The successful candidate will be a key member of the Finance team reporting directly to the Finance Manager.

We are looking for someone who has previous experience within an accounts / finance environment.
Preferably someone who is either AAT qualified or on their way towards the AAT qualification. Someone that is positive, up for a challenge and has a can-do attitude and approach to their work. Ideally they will have previous working knowledge of Sage 50 and will be frequently working from spreadsheets so will have excellent Excel skills and be competent in other Microsoft packages including Word, Outlook and Teams. Excellent communication skills are essential, and the successful candidate should be confident in speaking to people over the phone and via email.

The role:

  • Fully responsible for the sales ledger ensuring customer payments are made within agreed terms. This will involve building strong customer relationships and quickly resolving queries to prevent payment delays.
  • Create weekly debtor report and regularly review the ledger with the Finance Manager ensuring any issues are highlighted.
  • Managing and processing supplier payments, including preparing payment schedules for approval, processing payments on the bank and allocating payments on the system.
  • Regularly reviewing the purchase ledger to ensure all payments are allocated.
  • Providing support to the purchase ledger function as required, but usually around month end.
  • Entry of all other bank payments onto the banking platform.
  • Update and distribution of a daily cash forecast.
  • Posting cash receipts and daily bank reconciliations on SAGE.
  • Responsible for petty cash, posting journals and reconciling.
  • Uploading a weekly payroll to the bank & posting of the related wages journal.
  • Downloading monthly credit card statements (6 cardholders), sending statements out, chasing receipts, coding expenses returns and then posting to SAGE.
  • To work closely with the Finance Manager and support the finance department to produce accurate and timely management accounts and financial information.
  • Prepare and distribute a weekly turnover report.
  • Taking customer card payments over the phone.
  • Assisting with preparation of month end journals.
  • To provide holiday cover within the department.
  • Carry out any adhoc duties within the finance department which are deemed appropriate.
