Purpose of the Role

At Metro Centre we aim to create a compelling and fun experience for our customers.

The purpose of a cleaning operative role is to work with other team members to clean all areas as required in a safe and efficient manner. You are responsible for day-to-day cleaning of the External Retail Park but will be required to clean other areas agree set by your Team Leader/ Manager these will include the car park, transport interchange, multi-story car parks, toilets and service areas.

Training will be provided on all relevant machinery required within your role, with the expectation that these are well always maintained and used in a professional manner.

You will have the ability to work both individually and within a team. You will be capable of carrying out your duties without constant supervision and be proactive in ensuring your area of responsibility always meets the highest standards of safety and cleanliness.

You will also be one of our Customer Service ambassadors, providing world class service to all customers, retailers and contractors.

Key Responsibilities

  • To deliver all cleaning and waste operations within the shopping centre.
  • Provide excellent customer service to all customers
  • Sweeping, mopping and cleaning floors (both FOH and BOH)
  • Emptying bins and removing rubbish
  • General cleaning duties around the centre to meet with periodic schedules
  • To comply with all the health and safety procedures for the department- COSHH, SSOW, Risk Assessments, SOPs, TBT and PPE.
  • To communicate and liaise with Team Leaders and colleagues to ensure a smooth running of the department
  • To service, clean and maintain all relevant areas, ensuring that the safety and cleanliness is of the highest standard
  • To report any maintenance defects relating to the building and its fixtures and fittings
  • To operate machinery in accordance with operating manual and training
  • To clean all required touchpoints every hour
  • To be flexible and willing to change shifts for business needs
  • To attend meetings and training provided by the trainer on all operational subjects
  • Have pride in your own appearance and the centre. You must be aware of your own responsibilities and adhere to company policies and procedures.
  • Any other reasonable task requested by a member of the supervisory/ management team
  • Assist with the delivery of centre objectives

Skills, Knowledge, and Experience

Essential:

  • Enthusiastic to learn and work as part of a team
  • Positive ‘can do’ attitude with the ability to show initiative
  • Experience in using various cleaning machines and equipment
  • To be able to communicate with the public at all levels
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of COSHH

Desirable:

  • BICS training
  • NVQ level 1 cleaning
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Cleaning related qualifications (BICs)
  • Machinery/ vehicle qualifications (Driving, Forklift, IPAF)
  • Knowledge of environmental practices and recycling methods

Working Hours - 40 hours week

Salary - £11.65ph / £24,232 annual
