Job Title: Environmental Health Officer

Location: Borough of Newcastle under Lyme

Contract: Part-time, 3 days per week (with remote working available)

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Environmental Health Officer to join our team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in ensuring compliance with environmental health regulations and supporting the achievement of the Council's corporate objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct inspections of premises, activities, and substances, investigating complaints and taking necessary action.
  2. Support the training of employees, trainees, and students within the division, providing expertise and guidance as needed.
  3. Supervise technical staff or trainees assigned to specific tasks/functions, ensuring efficient execution of duties.
  4. Assist in the preparation of business plans, budget estimates, and work programmes.
  5. Prepare reports and financial/statistical information, contributing to annual reports and presentations to Council and Committees.
  6. Attend meetings as required, representing the Service and/or the Council, and reporting on relevant matters.
  7. Ensure the security and proper operation of information systems in compliance with legislation and Council policies.
  8. Safeguard equipment assigned to the team and maintain records of its usage.
  9. Deliver talks, lectures, and presentations to various groups as required.
  10. Undertake occasional duties outside the assigned team and work outside normal office hours when necessary.
  11. Stay up-to-date with legal and technical developments in the field of environmental health, maintaining CPD records.

Occasional Responsibilities:

  1. Prepare and present evidence for court, committee, or planning appeals.
  2. Attend technical group meetings and public liaison committees.
  3. Deliver lectures/talks to various groups, including adults and school children.

General Duties:

  1. Adhere to safeguarding policies and guidance related to children and vulnerable adults.
  2. Comply with health and safety regulations and Council policies.
  3. Actively engage in personal and professional development through the Council's Performance Appraisal Scheme.
  4. Identify and report risks, contributing to the formal risk management process.
  5. Produce performance information accurately and in a timely manner, following the Council's Data Quality Policy.
  6. Uphold the Council's Equal Opportunities Policy.
  7. Undertake any other duties allocated commensurate with the post's grading and responsibilities.
  8. Maintain awareness of information security and data protection policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with data handling regulations.
