A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a electronic engineer (design) to join a leading manufacturer and supplier to a variety of industries including offshore, renewable energy and marine.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide design input on projects, using the technical competencies listed below.
  • Produce engineering designs, specifications, and documentation to ISO 9001.
  • Assist in the preparation of operating and maintenance manuals.
  • Offsite engineering support for new products.
  • Assist sales and marketing in the preparation of quotes and proposals.
  • Provide customer support.
  • Provide technical support to the production, logistics and integration departments.
  • Work within the requirements of company procedures and national/international regulations.
  • Work within the timescales and budgets set by the company.
  • Other activities as directed by the Engineering Manager.

Beneficial Skills / Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering or related/equivalent subject (lesser qualifications coupled with suitable design experience may be considered in exceptional circumstances)
  • Power distribution and protection equipment.
  • Communication systems and protocols (RS232, RS485, SPI, I²C, Ethernet, etc.).
  • Industrial sensors and equipment.
  • PCB manufacturing and standards.
  • PCB breadboard prototyping using soldering iron and handtools.
  • Design of analogue and digital electronic circuits.
  • Inspection, testing and certification requirements.
  • Ergonomics.
  • Completing and checking designs and documentation.
  • Electric motor types, designs and specification.
  • Variable speed drives and soft-starts.
  • Wiring distribution systems.
  • Video distribution, formats, conversions and storage.
  • Fibre optic multiplexers and ancillaries.
  • Design of motor control electronic circuits.
  • PCB design using Altium or equivalent.
  • Design of electrical power transmission systems.
  • Safety conscious, attentive to QHS&E policies and regulations (ISO 9001 QA systems).
  • Sound engineering knowledge.
  • Cost consciousness.
  • Technical drawing competence as defined above.
  • Flexibility, adaptability and professionalism, with the ability to work cooperatively as part of a multidiscipline team or individually on projects.
  • Time management with ability to plan work loadings, multi-task, and work under pressure.
  • Ability to problem solve.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, clear technical writing and good record keeping.
  • Attention to detail and effective checking regime.
  • Software skills, Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD/DraftSight and conversant with Mathcad.
  • Willingness to learn new engineering skills.
  • Ability to liaise with other members of staff including customers and third parties.

Additional Details:

  • 37 hours per week, 8.30am to 4.30pm Mon-Thurs and 8.30am to 4pm Friday
  • Office based, no home/hybrid working available
  • 25 days holidays plus 8 fixed bank holidays
  • 5% pension
  • Overtime – time and half Mon-Sat and double time Sunday
