Salary: £41,418 to £44,428 per annum.

Working Pattern: Full-time, 37 hours per week and flexible working options to be agreed with your line manager.

Contract: Permanent.

Location: County Hall, Chichester with hybrid working options.

Interview: 30th and 31st May 2024.

The Diversity & Inclusion Manager is a pivotal role for West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service (WSFRS). You will promote, increase, and embed a culture of inclusion and psychological safety within WSFRS while ensuring compliance with the Public Sector Equality Duty.

You will lead collaborative work with stakeholders, providing feedback to senior leaders within WSFRS, to embed outcomes in the workplace and in how we deliver our service to the community.

You will lead the development and delivery of the inclusion and diversity workstreams in the WSFRS People Service Plan, while also advising other WSFRS workstream leads on matters of EDI.

You will have successful experience in the field of equality, diversity and inclusion, particularly within the context of facilitating culture change and organisational development in organisations.

What you'll be doing:

  • Successfully managing EDI projects and assigned work.
  • Using your deep and thorough understanding of equal opportunities, legislation and best practice regarding EDI issues.
  • Quality assuring and evaluating EDI processes and making the necessary changes where required. Ensure all major changes are taken through the formal WSFRS governance process and agreed with senior leaders.
  • Creating and delivering high quality and highly effective training and awareness raising programmes on diversity and inclusion.
  • Active contribution to regional collaborative projects, ensuring the voice of WSFRS is input in a professional and consistent manner.
  • Knowledge and understanding of working with applicable legislation (GDPR, Fire Service Act (Employment section), Employment Rights Act, Equality Act, Public Sector Equality Duty).
  • Ensure the progress of performance indicators are reported on at a senior level through the WSFRS Performance Assurance Framework.

  • Ability to advise on equality, diversity and inclusion matters and conduct Equality Impact Assessments.
  • Ability to design, deliver and lead inclusion initiatives, including training / awareness programmes on diversity and inclusion.
  • Ability to provide an environment of psychological safety and constructive problem solving.
