Summary ***Internal applications only, please***   Are you an inspiring people leader with a passion for organising and helping others to get things done?   We’re looking for a Directorate Services Manager to join our Legal & Governance Directorate on a permanent basis, due to promotion of the current postholder.
Our work helps everyone here - staff, volunteers, non-executives and other partners.  As a legal and governance team, we ensure the National Trust remains true to its charitable purposes of looking after places for the benefit of the nation.   Acting as a member of the Senior Leadership Team, you’ll help lead our Legal & Governance directorate to improve their processes and support our director to be at their very best.     What it's like to work here We're bigger than you think, we're more complicated than we appear and we're larger scale than you'd imagine.   We've got passionate people in all our teams, and we've got so much more we want to achieve.   We're for ever, for everyone, and we really mean that.   Your contractual location will be our head office in Swindon and there will be an expectation for you to attend the office. However, there is flexibility on where you are based at other times. You will be required to work at a National Trust location for 40-60% of your working week. This will be discussed in more detail at interview.     What you'll be doing As well as supporting our General Counsel & Secretary, you’ll co-ordinate the rhythm of the directorate, helping the directorate plan ahead and prepare for future activity. You’ll be an active, passionate part of our Senior Leadership team, who loves variety.   You’ll always champion best practice when it comes to service and will be confident challenging the norm when you think there’s a better way of doing something.    In any given day you could be helping to arrange a directorate wide event or helping one of our teams review and improve a process.  You could be supporting colleagues to provide high level papers by a set deadline or analysing and preparing reports on budgets.   You’ll be preparing agendas and leading Senior Leadership meetings and Directorate Days, reflecting the key activity of the organisation that month or you could be liaising with our external stakeholders and professional bodies.   You’ll connect and form strong relationships with all the members of our directorate as well as being an active member of the Business Services community. You’ll work with other Directorate Services Managers and Business Services Manager to collaborate and co-ordinate to help our directorates work in unity.   Who we're looking for You can view the full role profile for this role in the document attached. You don't need to have all the knowledge, skills and experience listed in the role profile; this is just to provide a full picture of what is possible in this role. We’d love to hear from you if you have:   •         A strategic approach with experience of high-level support provision •         Ability to understand how things fit together and spot the opportunities that appear •         Leadership and good people management skills, able to create a vision and encourage others to follow you to make it happen •         A strong communicator who can confidently and clearly present their ideas and those of others •         A process thinker and loves to explore the intricacies of how things work and what we can do to improve them •         A skilled IT user, happy to learn and explore new technology and systems as well as share the knowledge with others, while multi-tasking your own workload   The package
