A newly-created Design Manager opportunity with a privately owned main contractor delivering over £100m turnover across projects within the industrial, commercial, and retail sectors. This role offers the successful candidate the chance to run their own projects and take advantage of a platform to grow within an expanding organisation based in Kent.

Client Details

This opportunity has been created with a small growing design management team of a privately-owned main contractor based in Kent. The business has grown to delivering over £100m turnover with a well-established client base across the industrial, commercial, and retail sectors. With an experienced leadership team and strategic hires joining recently the business will continue to grow and diversify their sector work as well as explore new regional locations.

Individuals in the business are able to work with independence, generally taking the lead on their own projects, whilst benefiting from the support of the wider team. Due to the nature of the projects the working environment is fast-paced, but the leadership team ensure that their employees are looked after with performance rewards, development plans, and team/company social events.

Description

The successful Design Manager will oversee 2-3 projects throughout the Southern Home Counties from contract award to handover. Your key responsibilities will include:

- Appointment and management of the external design team

- Coordination with the commercial team for subcontractor appointments

- Management of all design and technical information ensuring quality and compliance is met throughout

- Weekly site visits to manage progress meetings with the build team and resolve queries/issues as necessary

- Oversight of the handover process to the client

Profile

A successful Design Manager should have:

  • A relevant qualification (architecture, engineering, CIOB, etc.)
  • Main contractor design coordination/management experience
  • A background in delivering projects from contract award to handover
  • Experience of steel frame construction methodologies
  • Proven ability or the potential to work as the sole design lead on a project
  • Excellent communication skills and an ability to work with internal and external stakeholders

You must have the right to work in the UK and will be comfortable with travel throughout the Southern Home Counties to project sites and will be able to commute to the office in Kent.

Job Offer

  • A competitive salary ranging from £65,000 to £75,000 per annum (depending on experience).
