Our client is a leading Tier 1 Main Contractor specialising in delivering high-profile construction projects in and around Leeds, operating on multiple National Frameworks.

Position Overview: They are searching for a Design Manager to join the team. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in overseeing the design process for significant schemes, ensuring that designs meet client specifications, regulatory requirements, and quality standards. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual to contribute to the success of prestigious construction projects in the region.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Manage the design process from conception to completion, ensuring that designs are developed in accordance with project requirements, budget constraints, and deadlines.
  • Collaborate closely with clients, architects, engineers, and other stakeholders to establish project objectives, design criteria, and deliverables.
  • Lead design coordination meetings, providing guidance and support to the project team to resolve design issues and conflicts.
  • Review and assess design drawings, specifications, and documentation to identify potential risks, discrepancies, or areas for improvement.
  • Liaise with external consultants, subcontractors, and suppliers to obtain design information, approvals, and technical submissions.
  • Monitor design progress and performance against project milestones, proactively identifying and addressing any deviations or delays.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, and industry standards throughout the design process.
  • Foster a collaborative and innovative design culture within the project team, encouraging creativity, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide regular updates and reports to senior management on design progress, challenges, and solutions.
  • Mentor and coach junior members of the design team, promoting their professional development and growth.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
  • Proven experience in a similar role within the construction industry, ideally with a Tier 1 Main Contractor.
  • Strong technical knowledge and understanding of construction design principles, methods, and practices.
  • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to multitask, prioritise workload, and meet tight deadlines.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proficiency in relevant design software and tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, BIM).
  • A proactive and solution-focused approach to problem-solving, with a keen eye for detail and quality.
  • Familiarity with construction contracts, procurement processes, and commercial considerations.
  • Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., RIBA, CIOB) is desirable but not essential.
