Mechanical Engineering Manager required for a Pharmaceutical manufacturer based in Liverpool. You will lead a team of mechanical and process engineers to perform and manage all engineering related tasks and data within the business. To design and develop mechanical and process engineering aspects of machinery to a project specification and in line with the project schedule, technical regulations, and business objectives.

Mechanical Engineering Manager Position Overview

  • Manage all aspects of the mechanical and process engineering teams used in the pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical, and chemical industries
  • Responsible for ensuring the handing over of all mechanical and process design documentation to relevant areas of the business, such as Sales and Operations, On Time In Full
  • Lead the team both in terms of day-to-day activities and long-term development and performance
  • Plan weekly workloads with a focus on contract status, task completion, resource allocation, and risk mitigation where appropriate
  • Take a lead role in the execution of Contract Design Reviews, Risk Assessments, and the approval of design documentation and specifications
  • Ensure all equipment is designed in accordance with industry regulations and standards, including but not limited to ISO 9001, PED, ASME U Stamp, and ATEX
  • Ensure engineering activities such as detailed design, process design, and checking procedures are executed in accordance with the company's internal procedures and within data management software such as PDM
  • Support the engineering team in specifying ancillary equipment such as motors, gearboxes, and pumps
  • Responsible for reporting monthly KPI's as agreed with the Engineering Director
  • Work closely with the Electrical / Controls engineering team to ensure all aspects of equipment design and integration are considered at the design stage
  • Support the preparation and approval of specifications for purchasing of mechanical materials and equipment
  • Perform and approve design calculations, such as pressure and flow-rates, and ensure equipment is compliant with client specifications and industry regulations
  • Research industry changes and explore the possibility of product innovation within the company
  • Responsible for managing non-conformances within the mechanical and process engineering team, establishing root causes and preventative measures, and implementing these for future projects

Mechanical Engineering Manager Position Requirements

  • Mechanical Engineering Degree (or similar) or HND Qualification with proven experience within the Pharmaceutical Industry
  • Be fully conversant in the use and understanding of General Arrangement Drawings, 3D Modelling software (Solidworks preferable), Detailed Design Drawings, Process & Instrumentation Diagrams, and Functional Specifications
  • Strong attention to detail with demonstratable knowledge of highly tolerance assemblies, limits and fits, machined parts, and interfaces
  • Understanding of key manufacturing technologies, such as fabrication, welding, and machining highly desirable so that designs are commercially and technically viable
  • Experience leading and developing a team of engineers to achieve project and business objectives
  • Commercial acumen to ensure designs are viable in the market and meet budgetary expectations
  • Excellent organisation skills
  • Strong communicator with an ability to listen and direct tasks to maximise performance
