Hays Accountancy and Finance are recruiting and working in partnership with a large public sector organisation for the appointment of a Deputy Principal Accountant offering a competitive market leading salary and public benefits. This role will act as an integral member of the finance team, you will be working across a range of Finance functions and services including;
Your new role

  • Provision of high-quality financial information;
  • Preparation of Annual Reports and Accounts;
  • Provision of advice, guidance and direction on the management of budgets, the in-year monitoring of expenditure, and the preparation of Estimates
  • Provide financial governance over specific IT Projects within the Department
  • Identification & delivery of process improvements
  • Developing management accounting and financial performance reporting for division
  • Establishing and maintaining close and effective working relationships
  • Maintaining an up-to-date and comprehensive understanding of current public expenditure planning, monitoring, control, and accountability systems
  • Leading, managing, and motivating teams of staff who often need to work to tight deadlines, and on tasks where high-quality information and guidance needs to be produced
  • Review and assessment of business cases
  • Managing the resources of your own section
  • Dealing with internal and external auditors including the Northern Ireland Audit Office.


What you'll need to succeed

  • Applicants must be fully qualified accountants, having successfully completed the professional examinations, and be a full Member of one of the following bodies:
  • Chartered Accountants Ireland;
  • The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Scotland;
  • The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales;
  • The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants;
  • The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants;
  • The Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy
  • The Institute of Certified Public Accountants in Ireland.


AND Must have one year's experience gained in the last five years, in a finance related environment.
2. It would be desirable to have previous experience in the following areas;

  • Previous working experience in a Financial Team
  • Collaborative working experience with multiple stakeholders
  • Working to tight deadlines and competing priorities
  • Establishing good communication and maintaining productive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders and excellent written and oral skills, e.g. report writing, assisting with written submissions.
