Kenneth Brian Associates, are recruiting on behalf of a not for profit organisation based in Burgess Hill for the appointment of a Head of Finance.

Our client has seen significant growth in recent years and are expanding their enterprise by acquiring a number of properties within their portfolio.

This position will lead the day to day running of the finance team that handles finance for the organisation ensuring that the team operate effectively and efficiently across all areas, developing them to ensure that they provide the best possible support to stakeholders, providing high quality, on time and accurate financial outputs.

You will also be required to identify opportunities for improvement in financial performance that maximise income and cashflow and optimise costs and expenses.

Ensuring a high-quality finance business partnering service is delivered that builds strong relationship with all stakeholders and ensures optimal financial decisions are made through providing impactful financial insight and understanding.

Responsible for the end-to-end delivery of realistic but stretching budgets and forecasts that have business buy-in and are produced on a timely basis, from setting of targets through to presentation to the leadership team. Lead on key business cases that ensure the development of the organisation and the furthering of our strategic objectives.

You will be personally responsible for 8 cost centres and for delivering the full P&L reports.

You will work with the subsidiary businesses to integrate their respective P&Ls. Additionally, we are looking for someone to build and develop an effective controlled environment and to provide strategic insight and advice to the senior management team.

The ideal candidate will be process driven, and responsible for tasks such as preparing financial statements, budget reports, forecasts, cost analysis reports, profit or loss statements, as well as making recommendations for spending or reducing costs, and providing financial analysis and advice to the CEO at any time the Group is involved in business transactions.

To be successful in this role you will need to be proactive and output focussed, with an ambition to want to progress, learn and further develop your skills. The ideal candidate will be comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, with prior experience in a not for profit organisation (however not essential).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Delivery of monthly management and financial accounts
  • Consolidation of monthly and annual accounts
  • Close down of years trading, balancing of ledgers, and production of annual Statutory Accounts with Auditors
  • Controlling income, cash flow and expenditure
  • Leading the preparation VAT, PAYE and Corporation Tax account reconciliations
  • Understanding and supporting the business on profitable business growth, highlighting opportunities and risks
  • Development and strengthening of internal controls
  • Developing and managing financial systems/models/policies
  • Management of 14 staff providing guidance and support.


The ideal candidate:

  • ACA/ACCA, however, CIMA could be considered if technically astute.
  • Strong ability to implement and monitor internal controls
  • Analytical with strong attention to detail
  • Team manager and player
  • Good communicator, planner and organiser
  • Strategic finance and tax planning
  • Ambitious and forward thinker who embraces and adapts well to change


Salary on offer, £86'000 plus 10% Bonus,
