Deputy Care Home Manager

Service Name: The Croft Care Home

Location: Amersham, Buckinghamshire

Salary: £26,634 PA (before successful completion of probation)

Hours: 38 Hours PW (Weekends and on call included)

Who are Ambient Support?

Ambient Support, a registered UK charity with over 25 years’ experience in providing care and support services for older people, people with a mental health needs and people with learning disabilities.

Our residential care home, The Croft, is a community-based home for Older People in Amersham. We provide care and support to 60 residents, including up to 31 residents with a higher level of specific dementia care needs. This is a welcoming home from home environment offering regular activities and organised events.

The role of our Deputy Home Manager:

  • To attend and sometimes chair staff and the resident’s meetings and to encourage the training of all staff.
  • To ensure that infection control standards are maintained.
  • To support all staff with care and support-based decisions, thereby aiding their professional development.
  • To take responsibility for the implementation of Ambient’s medication policies and procedures in the care facility. To maintain good communication with Pharmacist and local GP Practices.
  • To ensure that all staff receive regular supervision, are annually appraised, and provided with a personal development plan.
  • To be responsible for monitoring the staff rota, ensuring that annual leave, training, and sickness cover is provided in the most cost-effective way.
  • To share with the Home Manager the responsibility for monitoring broad aspects of the management of the home including the supervision and training of care staff.
  • To Assist the Manager with the recruitment and deployment of staff with an awareness of Registration requirements.
  • To carry out a comprehensive assessment of the person prior to moving into the service
  • To ensure that the Service implements a social activity programme, which will be appropriate to people’s needs and reflect their recorded preferences and aspirations.
  • To be responsible for making sure that when people move into the service an appropriate Person-Centred Plan is completed and a key worker allocated in partnership with the person using the service.
  • To be on call 'out of hours’ as part of a rota system
  • To act at all times in accordance with Equal Opportunities legislation with regard to people who we support and staff.
  • To participate in and contribute to any other working groups or meetings as required.

Skills and attributes of our Deputy Home Manager:

  • At least one year’s experience at team leader or management level, preferably in a care home setting.
  • Relevant current care experience.
  • Experience of supervising, training, and mentoring staff.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Health & Social Care Act 2008 and CQC Fundamental Standards.
  • Competent approach to budgets, petty cash procedures.
  • Ability to complete and check monitoring sheets, devise rotas.
  • Broad range of care skills for older people living in residential care.
  • Activities for older people in care.
  • Basic current Health and Safety law including food hygiene and manual handling.
  • Able to manage difficult situations effectively.
  • Able to priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Able to use own initiative.
