Communication Support Worker
  • Location: Greater Manchester
  • Salary: £20+ per hour
  • Contract: Rest of the academic year (Full-time/Part-time)

We are seeking a dedicated Communication Support Worker to join our team and make a significant impact on the educational journey of students with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND). This role is an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about ensuring deaf students have equal access to education.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Work closely with deaf students across various educational settings, facilitating effective communication between students, teachers, and peers.
  • Utilise a range of communication methods, including British Sign Language (BSL), clear speech, and notetaking, tailored to each learner’s needs.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff to adapt learning materials and support inclusive learning practices.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and document communication strategies and their effectiveness.
  • Empower students to advocate for their needs, promoting independence, self-confidence, and a positive learning environment.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • A passion for supporting deaf learners and a genuine desire to contribute to their educational success.
  • Relevant qualifications, such as a Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant certificate or an SEN Diploma.
  • Proficiency in British Sign Language (BSL) and excellent spoken English communication skills.
  • Patience, flexibility, and the ability to adapt to different learning styles and student requirements.
  • Previous experience in an educational setting is desirable but not essential.
