Data Engineer | National Manufacturing Market-Leader | Manchester

Role: Data Engineer

Location: Manchester (1 day per week in the office)

Harmonic is delighted to assist our Manchester-based client in scaling their ever-growing data team as they look to bring in a highly ambitious Data Engineer.

They have some incredibly exciting plans within the data team as they are in the process of undergoing a huge digital transformation project across the entire business.

This project will cover several initiatives, including extending data science capabilities, leveraging AI, and integrating data from operations systems into data analytics and BI systems.

If you're a Data Engineer looking to broaden your skillset and develop expert skills across the MS Azure suite and AI then this is an amazing opportunity for you.

The role will sit within the Data Engineering team (currently 4 but growing to 6) and report to the Data Engineering Manager, as well as working closely with the wider data team of 16 like-minded data enthusiasts!

Job Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Data Engineering, cross-functional teams, and business partners to create and maintain data transformation/integration pipelines for analytics and business intelligence.
  • Contribute to defining and developing data collection, storage, and quality standards to support modern reporting architecture.
  • Assist in establishing data quality and governance standards, working with technology teams.
  • Develop and analyse data pipelines for high availability, simplicity, and data quality.
  • Provide insights beyond data delivery, including analysis and profiling where possible.
  • Build strong, collaborative relationships with key stakeholders, serving as a subject matter expert and trusted advisor.

Experience:

  • 3-5 years of experience in a similar role (progressing from a Data Analyst/BI Developer position into a Data Engineer position would be relevant)
  • Strong technical background with expertise in data warehousing and dimensional modelling
  • Experience collaborating with agile teams and stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle, managing expectations, and improving data literacy
  • Working knowledge of data governance
  • Testing skills, including reviewing requirements, defining test conditions within an agile environment, and reporting test activities and results

Technical Skills:

  • Solid SQL and Python experience
  • Experience working with cloud technologies, ideally across MS Azure suite (Synapse, Databricks, ADF)
  • Proficient in data modelling, able to produce relevant data models
  • Ability to build robust and scalable data pipelines

Salary: Up to £55,000 DOE
