About the role

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Cyber Security Engineer to join our Cyber Defence team at Hargreaves Lansdown, a leading financial services company. As a Cyber Security Engineer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the security and integrity of our systems and data. This role will have a strong focus on project work with integrations into the SIEM and you will be empowered to drive and build your own security improvement initiatives as part of the role.

You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and enhancing security systems and processes to detect and respond to potential threats and vulnerabilities. You will act as a security SME with input into wider digital projects to ensure logging and monitoring coverage into the SIEM platform. This role requires technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and a strong commitment to maintaining the highest level of security.

What you'll be doing

SIEM Management:

  • Develop and maintain efficient log ingestion processes to collect, process, and analyse logs from various systems, applications, and network devices
  • Identify and address any gaps in log ingestion coverage to ensure comprehensive visibility into potential security threats
  • Enhance SIEM telemetry by configuring and optimising data sources, correlation rules, and use cases
  • Utilise automation capabilities to boost efficiency within the SIEM and the team

Security System Optimisation:

  • Continuously evaluate and optimise security systems, tools, and processes to improve efficiency, accuracy, and effectiveness
  • Ability to pursue and initiate security improvement projects
  • Ensure the health and availability of the security tooling
  • Stay up to date with the latest advancements in security technologies and industry trends and make recommendations for improvement

Projects:

  • Act as a Security/SOC SME when working with other digital teams to ensure that new applications and services are onboarded correctly
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance when handling the onboarding of new data sources

About you

  • Proven experience in a technical security or infrastructure engineering role, with a focus on SIEM log ingestion, telemetry, configuration, and optimisation
  • Strong knowledge of security best practices, standards, and frameworks. Proficiency in scripting and programming languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell, etc.)
  • Technical knowledge of leading cloud platforms and services
  • Excellent experience with SIEM platforms and log management tools
  • Strong technical knowledge with security and network tooling, such as Firewalls and IDS/IPS, EDR as well as log ingestion formats from these tools

Desired Training/Qualification(s)

  • Technical Security Qualification, e.g. SANS, GIAC
  • Cloud (AWS/Azure) Certification, such as AWS Security Engineering, AZ-900 etc

Interview process

This role will be a two-stage interview process, consisting of a competency/behavioural based interview and a technical assessment.

Working Schedule

We are based in Bristol, BS1 5HL. This role is permanent, full time, 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. We have returned to the office, however for this role we offer a hybrid flexible working pattern to enable you the option of working from home.
