Aspiring Gang Prevention- Aspiring Youth Counsellor - SEMH - Vulnerable Young People - Dorking

This is a Learning Support Assistant (LSA) role working with vulnerable children and young people in Dorking, Surrey. The school looks after 60 pupils aged 9-16 years and they provide a holistic and restorative approach to learning and behaviour management. The students at the school have varying degrees of social, emotional, mental health needs (SEMH).

The students at the school have been through a range of traumas and will generally struggle to build long term relationships with their peers. They commonly have high levels of anxiety and can demonstrate challenging, and at times, volatile behaviour. This is where you empathy and understanding comes into play. If you're passionate about supporting vulnerable young people with their mental health to help them achieve their potential then this role is ideal for you.

This is a challenging environment to work in so you must have the right objectives and motivations in order to apply. If your sole focus is to build a career working with vulnerable young people then this job is perfect.

Summary:

***Specialist provision for students with complex social, emotional mental health needs (SEMH)

***Classes range from 6-8 in size with a focus on implementing key and personal skills

***Ideal LSA role if you have aspirations within Youth Work, Probation and Rehabilitation

***Focus on a range of learning needs and ability, some of the students will have a 6-10% attendance record over the course of the academic year

***Holistic, Therapeutic and Restorative Processes used, de-escalation techniques are key

***Focus on dealing with trauma and positive re-enforcement in order to build confidence and self esteem

***Students will either live at home with parents/guardians or be in residential/foster care setting

***Focus on GSCE subjects, AQA, building a curriculum that works for their individual needs

***April 24 starts or later in the year depending on your availability - £83+ per day

***Specialist Team Teach and safeguarding training provided

***The school likes to focus on LSAs who know their objectives and who would like to continue their personal education within an SEMH school

***A criminology, psychology or equivalent degree is highly desirable
